Description

The 16th annual BCCFA event will be hosted by the Mission Municipal Forest. Mission is on the unceded, ancestral and shared territory of the Sto:lo People. The Municipality of Mission is on Kwantlen, Leq’a:mel, Matsqui and Sq'éwlets territories situated on the north bank of the Fraser River where it backs onto mountains and lakes overlooking the Central Fraser Valley. The Mission Tree Farm Licence #26, also known as the Mission Municipal Forest has been a member of the BCCFA since inception in 2002. The forest area is approximately 10,000 hectares of which about 12% is municipally owned and 88% is provincial crown land. Along with working forest activities such as harvesting, tree planting/reforestation, plantation brushing, road construction, and forest fire prevention, their lower mainland location influences a focus on interpretation and recreation management. They formed in 1958 as an outcome of the report from Gordon Sloan in the Royal Commission on the Forest Resources of British Columbia of 1945, where there was a recommendation that municipalities manage local forests.

Together we are preparing an experience for delegates that should not be missed. The program includes topics of interest to community forests, and the opportunity to network and learn from others is a key aspect of the event. Check out the full program by clicking here

What are my transport options for getting to the event?

Transportation options from Vancouver Airport (YVR) to Mission can be found at this link. Mission is aproximately 1.5 hour driving time, or 85 km. We will be using the BC Community Forest Association's Facebook page to link people together for ride sharing. If you want a ride or can offer one from YVR airport, post your arrival time and your message. Let's get social networking to work for us. If you are driving from the north or the east we recommend that you take advantage of the scenic drive on Hwy 7 out of Hope that keeps you on the north side of the Fraser River and off the Trans-Canada!
