The BCCFA, in partnership with the UBC Faculty of Forestry, Alex Fraser Research Forest, has been successful in securing a new 3-year agreement, reviewed annually, with a private foundation to fund the Community Forest Extension Program. The objectives of the program are to provide face-to-face extension, to boards and managers on forest management and governance, specific to community forestry, and to continue to provide an opportunity for BCCFA to develop relationships with the Faculty of Forestry and with professors and students within the Faculty.
Ken Day, RPF, Manager of the Williams Lake Community Forest and the Alex Fraser Research Forest and Susan Mulkey, BCCFA’s governance specialist, meet face to face in communities, free of charge. The community visits are informal and focus on the issues and topics important to the communities. Last year there were 9 community visits. In the next few years the project plan is to ensure visits to communities in more remote areas who have not yet benefited from the program.
