Advocacy For Community Forest Management in BC

The BCCFA serves as an advocate for communities, and a communication link between government and those interested in and practicing community forestry.

The BCCFA has a mandate to:

  • Serve as the voice and advocate for community forestry in B.C.
  • Work with government to expand community forestry in B.C.
  • Provide input to government to facilitate the success of community forest initiatives.
  • Provide support and extension services to communities all around BC striving to obtain and successfully implement community forest initiatives.

The BCCFA has regular communication with government on issues of policy, expansion of the program and to make sure that accurate, timely and relevant information is available to BCCFA member communities.  We are actively engaged with the BC Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations (MFLNRO) at the executive level in Victoria and with the regions and district offices through the Community Forest Working Group and monthly calls. These relationships are key to ensuring that community forestry continues to grow as a viable feature on the BC forest management landscape.
