Groups want B.C. Forest Practices Board expanded to resources to restore public trust

A trio of B.C. groups representing recreational hunters and fishers, guide outfitters and trappers are calling on the B.C. government to retake control of resource extraction practices, planning and oversight. B.C. Wildlife Federation, B.C. Trappers Association and the Guide Outfitters Association of B.C. say they believe the government’s move in the past decade to rely on professionals hired by industry to make decisions on the land base, with little oversight, has failed. …In an Oct. 29 letter to Thomson (and copied to Premier Christy Clark), the organizations said legislative changes are needed, and recommended the role of the Forest Practices Board be expanded to include resource sectors including mining and the oil and gas industry.
