More public input sought on community forest The Whistler Question – March 24, 2011
The municipality is looking for further public input regarding logging in the Cheakamus Community Forest (CCF) area, which is scheduled to start in late April. According to a press release issued last week, the goal is to harvest about 20,000 cubic metres of wood in five different locations between April 2011 and late fall. “There are two sites that are potentially to be harvest right away,” said Heather Beresford, environmental stewardship manager for the municipality. “One is cleaning up the Brew Creek block that was started last fall, but we got shut out because November came on so hard with early snow. The other spot that is scheduled to start first thing in the season is called Rainbow O2 and O3, and it’s on the east side of the highway, along Powerline Hill south to the Cal-Cheak entrance area.”
