North Island Creates New Community Forest
North Vancouver Island communities have collaborated to establish a new community forest, announced Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations Minister Steve Thomson while at the BC Community Forest Association’s annual general meeting in 100 Mile House. The North Island community forest has an allowable annual cut of 10,400 cubic metres and covers 2,400 hectares on three separate tracts of land in the Alice Lake, Marble River and Quatse River Areas. The area includes second-growth hemlock and douglas fir, and old-growth cedar, including many stands regenerated after a hurricane in 1908.

Midway and Greenwood to Create New Community Forest
The Village of Midway and the City of Greenwood have been invited to jointly apply for a new community forest, announced Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations Minister Steve Thomson, while at the BC Community Forest Association’s Annual General Meeting in 100 Mile House. The community forest will have an allowable annual cut of up to 23,000 cubic metres within the Boundary Timber Supply Area with an initial term of 25 years. The area selection and agreement is subject to First Nations consultation.

Cortes Invited Into Community Forest Program
The Cortes Island Community Forest Advisory Group has been invited to apply for a community forest, announced Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations Minister Steve Thomson, while at the BC Community Forests Association annual general meeting in 100 Mile House. The invitation to apply is for an allowable annual cut of up to 13,600 cubic metres with an initial term of 25 years.  The invitation is subject to First Nations consultation. The exact location on the Island will need to be determined.

Clinton Joins Community Forest Program
The Village of Clinton has been invited to apply for a new community forest, announced Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations Minister Steve Thomson, while at the BC Community Forests Association annual general meeting in 100 Mile House. The community forest will have an allowable annual cut of up to 20,000 cubic metres in the 100 Mile House Timber Supply Area with an initial term of 25 years. The invitation is subject to First Nations consultation.
