Port Alberni receives first payment of $50,000 from project following one year of harvesting

After three years of existence and one year of harvesting, the Alberni Valley Community Forest has started repaying funding provided by the city.

During Monday’s regular council meeting, Alberni Valley Community Forest chair Jim Sears, along with board of directors member Chris Duncan and forest manager Shawn Flynn, was on hand to present council a $50,000 cheque. The community forest is a timber and non-timber forest resource corporation that was founded in 2009. It has an annual allowable cut of 18,000 cubic metres per year on tenures located in the Sproat Lake area.
