Next generation of forestry workers honing skills in Port Alberni

A high school classroom in Port Alberni is taking education to the great outdoors.

A handful of grade nine students at the Alberni District Secondary School have spent the year in the woods, learning the ins and outs of forestry and sustainable resources. The program, which started in 2008, is designed to gear students towards a career that will see more than 15,000 jobs open up in the next decade. The average age of a forestry worker in BC is 62.
