Councillor lobbies provincial government for expansion to community forest

The Alberni Valley Community Forest has had another successful year, and Coun. Jack McLeman is lobbying the provincial government to provide it more land. The AVCF is owned by the City of Port Alberni, but operates at arms length from it. The city provided $250,000 to start it up about five years ago. It recently provided the city with a payment of $50,000 and according to AVCF board member Chris Duncan, “our next payback hopefully will get them to the point where now we’ll be able to pass profits along.”
