MERRITT – Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations Minister Steve Thomson recognized the District of Logan Lake for fully implementing its community wildfire protection plan during a special awards ceremony at the Merritt Fire Zone base.
Logan Lake was among the first local governments in B.C. to complete a plan under the Province’s Strategic Wildfire Prevention Initiative. Since 2005, it has removed potentially hazardous debris from more than 400 hectares of interface forest, both by hand and through small-scale salvage tenures. Removing dead trees and underbrush helps slow wildfires when they reach communities, and makes it possible for crews to quickly and safely fight them.
Logan Lake was also acknowledged for outstanding achievement in wildfire planning and prevention during the Union of B.C. Municipalities convention in Whistler last September. READ MORE
