Parts of Chetwynd Community Forest Trail closing to clear pine beetle wood

Cleanup from the Pine Beetle kill is still going on in Chetwynd. Chetwynd Forest Industries (CFI), a division of West Fraser Mills Ltd., has announced that three sections of the Chetwynd Community Forest trail, the purple, green and grey routes, will be closed until May starting Oct. 13, while the company harvests dead pine from the area. …CFI began harvesting dead pine in September 2013. Removing it from the environment lowers the risk of the extremely dry wood causing a wildfire. The District of Chetwynd, West Moberly First Nation and Saulteau First Nation are partners with CFI on the community forest. Each member has a stake in the management and a share of the revenue from the pine that is harvested.
