Timber inventory plan completes its first year

The Ministry of Forests has completed year one of its ten year forest inventory plan. The plan is looking at the effects of the mountain pine beetle on the province’s 35 million hectares of trees.

The Ministry of Forests has completed year one of its ten year forest inventory plan. The plan is looking at the effects of the mountain pine beetle on the province’s 35 million hectares of trees. Forest Inventory Manager Pat Martin says the first year of the plan saw the ministry initiating new inventories in the Central Interior. “So for inventories that are just starting,” says Martin, “we begin by photographing the entire area from the plane, and use that to build the inventory, and in other cases the inventory is in progress.”
