Fire Recovery Operations on Area‐Based Tenures
Stephanie Ewan – Manager, Alex Fraser Research Forest
ABSTRACT: Following the 2017 fire season, the landscape of the Gavin Lake block of the Alex Fraser
Research Forest had changed. There had been seven wildfires in the 6,500 ha tenure area, totalling almost
1,000 ha of fire‐affected stands with an accompanying 55km of fireguards built in protection efforts.
Stephanie arrived as the newly hired manager 5 months after the fires were extinguished. She will present
some of the successes and challenges of recovery, salvage, sanitation, rehabilitation and new development
experienced over the past 15 months at Alex Fraser Research Forest.
